What is a GSA/IA Tour? Individual Augmentee or IA is an Airman or Sailor, both enlisted and officer, with orders to deploy to Afganistan, Iraq, GITMO, Djibouti/Horn of Africa or other locations to augment the Army and Marine Corps efforts in the Global War on Terror (GWOT). These service members are not deployed with their command or unit but sent as individuals, given specialized combat training at an Army base, then assigned at various locations throughout the world. A GSA or GWOT (Global War on Terror) Support Assignment is basically the same orders as IA orders with the exception these orders were negotiated with between the sailor and their detailer as part of their rotation process.
